Why Hydro-Mulching Is the Perfect Landscaping Technique for Your Sloppy Terrain

A home on a hill or slope overlooking the valley appeals to many people because of the nice view, cool breeze and serenity. However, one of the detriments, especially when landscaping is the surface run-off and erosion. The two elements deprive the soil of cover and nutrients, making them infertile for a nice lawn. Hydro-mulching, also known as hydraulic mulch seeding or hydroseeding, is a seed planting method that involves spraying a slurry of seed, mulch and fertiliser on bare land.

Read on to learn why it is gaining ground quickly.

Versatility

Given that the process involves a slurry of different items, hydro-mulching allows you to mix different types of seeds in one slurry. You can mix lawn grass, wildflowers, pasture, native plant life and others in one mix. This allows you to reduce the labour required and save both time and money. One spray will sort out about any plant life you wanted on the slope.

In addition, hydroseeding gives you an opportunity to make custom plant mixes to suit your unique requirements. For example, you may opt for native plant life and wildflowers in the backyard and landscaping grass and regular flowers on the front yard – this makes just two mixes.

For loose sand and areas susceptible to erosion, hydroseed technology allows you to customise the slurry to stabilise the soil before you make solid plans. For example, the slurry without the seeds is a good soil stabiliser.

Cost

Compared to regular sod, hydroseeding is more affordable. Other than the initial costs, maintenance as the growth is uniform and weed-free. With regular seeding, landscapers usually use straw and hay to keep birds from eating the seeds. This can be quite messy and time-consuming, as winds blow away the cover, thus requiring a clean-up. This also wastes money spend on clean-up.

Additionally, due to the uniform spray of seeds, less manpower and costs are required for patching up after the grass has grown.

Speed

The speed at which seeds are distributed will have your lawn ready to thrive in a jiffy. By spraying, you cover more space than you would with ordinary techniques. This saves you precious time.

This method of landscaping may cost you more than regular seeding and mulching, but the advantages it delivers are worth every penny you will spend.
