Lawn Delivery Tips

One of your main concerns after purchasing a lawn is how it will get delivered to your premises. Homeowners are often concerned that their precious lawn could suffer damages during transport. Below is an article discussing how to conduct safe and secure lawn delivery.

Work With A Trusted Partner

Your first task is to find a company experienced in lawn delivery. In some cases, the company that supplied the lawn will offer shipping services to your home. If they do not, conduct some internet research to identify transport companies specialising in the transportation of lawn and landscaping products. Alternatively, you could ask a close friend how they had lawns delivered to their homes. You are likely to find a few companies offering the service. Conduct some background research to identify a company with excellent reviews from its previous customers, friendly terms and reasonable pricing.

Lawn Packing

Proper packing can help prevent damages during loading and transportation. Ideally, the turf should have a reasonable width to ensure you have an easy time rolling it into a spiral. Place the turf on pallets to ensure you have an easy time loading it onto the truck. Trollies, pallet jacks and forklifts can be used to move and lift the pallets.

Transportation

Choose an appropriate vehicle to transport the lawn. Ideally, the vehicle should have adequate aeration to ensure the lawn is not exposed to extreme heat that might cause the leaves to wither. Inquire about the previous use of the delivery vehicle. For instance, it could harbour pests or dangerous chemicals if it has not been cleaned after delivering agricultural products or toxic chemicals. Place the pallet in such a way that it does not slide when the vehicle is taking steep slopes.

Offloading

Once the delivery truck arrives at your home, your immediate task should be to identify a suitable location to place the turf. Your home must be spacious enough for the delivery truck to access the area that you intend to grow the lawn. If this is not the case, the driver will park the truck on a level surface and unload the turf using a pallet trolley or a forklift truck. Depending on the specifications of this equipment, they may or may not be in a position to drive through unpaved surfaces.

If your lawn will be delivered from overseas, consider companies that use climate-controlled containers during shipping. It is a sure way to protect your lawn from humidity and temperature changes.

Lawn delivery should no longer be a daunting process. Work with an experienced delivery company and observe the recommended tips when packing, transporting and offloading the lawn.
